We've all experienced the woes of a degraded rechargeable battery, whether it’s a phone that can't last a day without a charge or a laptop that’s become so reliant on its charger you can barely call it a portable device anymore. It's a problem that scientists have struggled to solve because they couldn’t figure out what was causing such sudden and rapid battery deterioration.
But now researchers at the US Department of Energy have identified why rechargeable batteries lose their ability to hold a charge over time. Working with lithium-ion batteries, which are the most commonly used type of battery in consumer devices, the researchers were able to map their charge and discharge process down to a few billionths of a metre to find exactly how degradation occurs.
Their research appears in a pair of studies published by Nature Communications, and according to Matt Safford at Smithsonian Magazine, two main culprits in battery degradation were identified: "The first: microsco…
Microsoft is all set to release an update for Windows Phone 8.1.
Details about the Update 1 aka GDR (General Distribution Release) have been spotted on Microsoft’s Developer Center. The update includes many improvements for OEM’s and a few new ones for consumers.
In case of the consumers the update will bring folder support on the Start menu that will enable users to club apps together in a single folder similar to iOS and Android. Moreover, interactive phone cover support will also be present in this update. Interactive phone covers let manufactures develop cases for Windows Phones that when opened, unlock the display, enabling easier access to the phone. Android OEM’s like HTC and LG have already made such cases HTC Dot View case and LG G3′s QuickCirclecase for their flagship phones. They will get to run special apps when the cover is closed, and specify what happens when it’s open.
Additionally, the update would bring support for 7″ devices as well as ones with 1280 x 800 pixels scr…

I had voiced my opinion a month ago regarding Microsoft-Nokia association.
Yes, The $7 billion honeymoon is over. Ten months after that pricey acquisition of Nokia's handset business, Microsoft said 12,500 of the 18,000 layoffs will be from the Finnish company it acquired. It is the biggest layoff in company history.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO for less than six months, is swiftly leading the company to focus on "platform and productivity" from "devices and services". This is happening while the company is living in a "mobile-first and cloud-first world," Nadella wrote to employees last week. Nadella also wrote that he will reveal "further specifics on where we are focusing our innovation investments." It's a step in the right direction and I hope they "become more agile and move faster."

For someone using Microsoft Mango for the last few years, 8.1 is definitely an upgrade. But there is nothing out of this world about the Lumia 630 dual sim that would have us bouncing off the walls. Design
