The Redmi 4A is the latest device to join the series of budget smartphones in the market. Our Analysis team here at Bigfix ran their test on the device and seemed very much satisfied. To begin with things, the price of this phone will have you believe that it is a ‘budget’ smartphone when it is, in fact, what many pass off as a mid-range device these days. Yes agreed, it has a poly-carbonate body — one of the couple of cost saving measures — but it doesn’t give us cheap or tacky feel of any sorts. The uni-body matte finish looks and feels nice plus the smaller size makes it easy to hold.

There is a similarity with other Redmi phones and there are features you will not find in any other device at this price point. For instance, it has off-screen Android buttons, a customizable notification light, double tap to wake, reading mode, dual apps and even an infrared emitter for universal remote functions. It does have a lower end processor on the negative side, so you are more prone to face a hiccup from time to time but it can still play many 3D games, record/playback 1080p video, photo editing and multi-task with ease.

The camera is the most surprising part because that’s where you expect a real compromise which was not the case. Bigfix team were blown away with the quality of images: there’s some great detail, natural color and depth of field happening here. Obviously you can’t expect too much in tricky situations or low light. The front camera is a little soft on detail but still better than many at this price. The display is top notch as well. it’s a 720p HD display with a very respectable pixel density. It also gets very bright, shows off some good colour and is readable in sunlight.

Finally, battery life is a very decent day and a half. The only couple of areas to nitpick were the absence of Android button back-light. Camera app and auto-focus lags at times and the plastic shell (Redmi 3s with metal unibody is just `1,000 better, though admittedly, there is a large gap at this price point).

Redmi 4A is undoubtedly going to be another success story, especially when you consider that other brands are selling similar spec phones for double the price! The Redmi 4A proves that you don’t need to make extensive compromises just because you can only spend `6k on a smartphone.

Electric Vehicles : Sensors and Programming

With the oil crisis of 1970s, which affected our day to day lives in unfathomable ways, the transport industry too took a toll. A steep increase in the fuel prices meant less use of personal vehicles and thus lesser profits for the automotive industry. With no end in sight to the continuous and exponential rise in fuel prices, it was only in the definite interest of the companies to shift from oil as a fuel to better alternatives. Even though the idea of electric vehicles was prominent then, with some prototypes in existence, the major issue was mileage. With the meager coverage it gave, those cars were pretty useless other than for going shopping inside the city. Long drives and top speeds, the very component of thrill and adventure that car enthusiasts love about a drive was missing. There was no adrenaline rush in Battery Electric Vehicles compared to the traditional Internal Combustion Engine counterparts.  That is until, the TESLA ROADSTER unveiled in 2008. This c
